EmForge.org vs EmForge Portal Comparision

Both are web-applications provided wide range of software project management tools: task management and wiki are 2 most important. But there are many differences

EmForge.org is a standalone version designed to be downloaded and run in user environment. It is provided as war-application to deploy into any J2EE server, or as Windows Installer package - to easily install EmForge bundled with Jetty on windows machine.

EmForge Portal first of all is a project hosting service provided at emforge.net. So, first of all it is expected users will host their projects on emforge.net. But, since it is based on open-source components, customer who need it may download and setup EmForge Portal in their environment. EmForge Portal available for download as set of portlet to be deployed into customer's Liferay Portal. Commercial services to prepare EmForge Portal installation in customer environment available.

So, generally speaking, standalone EmForge has more strong workflow based task management system and it's better integration into wiki. EmForge Portal has much more wide Project Tools like Blogs, Forums and Activities.
